With the IOS5 Apple has made the customization of your iphone (not unlocked) a little bit better. Prior to this you were only able to edit your ringtones, but now you can do tones as well (SMS/MMS/Alerts). Hit the jump to find out more.
Let’s get started:
Step 1: There are a few places you can get custom tones for free, I like to use audiko.net, which i mentioned in a previous podcast. If you know of any others, let us know in your comments below.
Step 2: Search the name of the Tone you want in the search bar. I want to add ‘Falcon Punch’ from Smash Brothers to my phone as a text tone for when G sends me a message. After you search it, you will see a list of things related (much like other search engines). Sort through them until you find what you; remember you want it to have a certain level of clarity, and most importantly loud enough to hear.
Step 3: Once you have found one to your liking, hit the Get Iphone Ringtone link (the size of the file will be displayed underneath it). You will be brought to another page, hit the Download link, and the file download will pop-up displaying the name of the file and the “.m4r” file type. Choose somewhere to save it, default would be your downloads folder.
Step 4: Open Itunes, plug in your phone, and drag the file from where you saved it to the Tones option in your Itunes library. (if you do not see a tones options, simply drag and drop the .m4r file into the Music option and it will automatically create a Tones in your library).
Step 5: Select your phone under devices, along the top you will see Tones, press it and check mark the sync tones option. Hit the selected tones radio button, and check mark the tones you want to sync with your iphone. Then hit the Apply button and wait until its done.
Step 6: Disconnect your Iphone, go to Settings>Sounds> and select where you would like to apply your newly added tone. To set tones for a contact go to contacts>name of contact> Edit>Text Tone. Your list should look something like this
That’s YO Garbage!!
