Google Nexus 7 Tablet by ASUS announced.

Rumors of a nexus tablet have been floating around the net for quite some time now. The tablet was rumored to be manufactured by ASUS and be priced at 199.99.  It seems most of those rumors were spot on as ASUS has been confirmed to be making the new Google Nexus 7 Tablet. The tablet pricing will start at 199.99 and  will also come with a $25 credit as well as a free copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon.  The Nexus 7 Tablet is available now for pre-order in the Google Play store and is expected to ship in North America mid July.

For a full list of the Nexus 7’s hardware specs hit the jump.

  • The first device to use Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
  • Screen resolution of 1280 x 800.
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n Wireless Antenna.
  • Has a Quad-Core Tegra 3 processor.
  • Has a separate 12 core GPU processor.
  • 1 Gigabyte of Ram.
  • 8-16 Gigs of internal storage.
  • Has a front facing camera for Video calls.
  • NFC Capable.
  • 9 Hours of Video Playback time.
  • 300 plus hours of standby time.
  • weighs 340 grams.
  • Will ship with chrome as the default browser.

It all looks like a pretty decent deal for a 7″ tablet to me.  Though in all honesty I would not count the free digital copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon a bonus.

It seems to be WiFi only and it also does not have an SD card slot.
