From the ashes of a phoenix : The possible return of Jean Grey?

Next month Marvel will release the twelfth and final issue of the Avengers Versus X-Men, and after the release of a possible cover image for this final issue, there is one thing on most readers minds: Is that Jean Grey?

This all-star team of Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction with art by the trio of John Romita Jr., Olivier Coipel and Adam Kubert, are ready to release the conclusion of this highly unforgettable battle between two of the largest franchises in the Marvel Universe.

*Spoiler Alert* for those who want to read the comic but haven’t yet *Spoiler Alert*…Hope Summers, a mutant with an ability of unimaginable limits to manipulate and mimic the genes which are responsible for superhuman mutation, allow her to mimic surrounding mutants at their powers full potential. While stationed and training with the X-Men, she begins to possess a gradual growth of powers very comparable to that of The Phoenix; this is when the X-Men come to the realization that Hope is targeted as a vessel by the Phoenix Force and it is coming to her. The Avengers have this same realization through other means and think it important that Hope be in their custody to protect her from the Force that is coming to possess her, but the X-Men with Cyclops at their lead, have a different opinion of the matter. The X-Men insist on keeping Hope and want her to embrace the Phoenix Force as it could help revive the failing mutant race. Through some fight, chase and rescue, the battle is taken to the blue side of the moon where both the X-Men and Avengers are face to face with the arrival of the Phoenix Force. The Phoenix force arrives and, instead of possessing Hope, possess each of the five X-Men present. Now sharing the grand power of the Phoenix, they take a barely conscious Hope back to earth. However, she is rescued by the Avengers and the Scarlet Witch, who hide her in the city of K’unn-Lunn where she begins proper training in her role as the chosen host of the Phoenix.

Then Marvel decides to release this image for final issue of the 12 part series:

It is possible that it could be Hope in the Phoenix costume but considering comments by Marvel preceding the first issue release, I ‘Hope’ this isn’t the case. Though the picture only sets a silhouette backed by the Phoenix Force, the figure is in a very discernible ‘Jean Grey as The Phoenix’ Costume style with the same luscious flowing auburn coloured hair. This image does spark certain interest but my concern is mostly situated in whether Marvel will follow through with what most believe to be Jean Grey? OR are they going to throw us a complete curve ball and reveal someone else? I guess we will have to wait until October for the release of issue 12, after issue 11 set to be in stores September 12 2012.

Thats Yo Comic Garbage Heroes !

I know with marvel now they are planning on bringing the original x-men from the past to the current timeline. Maybe this is how it happens?

Yes this is something Marvel has mentioned and certainly a huge possibility. With the return of Jean Grey in such a series of comics as AvX would be a great way to start. This could be the beginning of something or the end of something else. At the start of the AvX comics Marvel strongly noted that there would be a shocking end. this could be it… very good point CMan.
