Syncing Bookmarks, Calendars and Contacts Between an iPhone and a Nexus 7 (or other Android device)

So, if you’re like a bunch of people I know, you have an iPhone as your cellphone but have recently purchased a Nexus 7. Hell, I bought an N7 myself recently, but have also bought a Galaxy Nexus phone so I don’t happen to be faced with the question of how to integrate the N7 into iOS and iCloud based data storage.

For those of you who are facing this data integration challenge, I’ve got a few tips for you on how to damn near seamlessly integrate your experience.

Rogers stops carrying Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus: For those who want the latest Android OS.

It seems that a few of Canada’s major cellphone providers are in quite a bit of a rush to stop carrying the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Launched on Rogers and Telus in January 2012, the Galaxy Nexus promised of having access to the latest versions of Google’s Android OS much faster than any other Android smartphone. Rumours, however, suggest it was instead the fact that the Galaxy Nexus comes as an unlocked pentaband phone that has been a major sticking point for Rogers and Telus.

Google Nexus Q delayed indefinitely

Google has recently delayed the Nexus Q and removed the ability to pre-order the product from the Google Play  store.  Google’s reasoning behind the delay is that they want to make the product “even better” but people who have already pre-ordered the device will be getting free Dev units of the device which are said to be sent out soon.

I’m honestly not really surprised by this news at all. The Nexus Q was a cool idea but its requirement of another android device to control it as well as it being locked down to Google Play’s ecosystem definitely  didn’t do it any favors.  That and I don’t really see why anyone would pay $ 299 for the device when you could get an Apple TV, Roku, or even a Google TV which provide similar features for a much cheaper price.

Apple TV Adds Hulu Plus

Americans rejoice! As of today Hulu Plus is now available on your Apple TV — no update required. Hulu Plus is a video streaming service that offers unlimited content for $7.99/month. Sound familiar? Well unlike Netflix, “Hulu Plus is the only online premium video subscription that streams current and classic TV programming on demand from hundreds of content partners, including top broadcast networks ABC, NBC, FOX, The CW and Univision.” That means you can watch yesterday’s episode of Community today…or tomorrow. If you have an existing account, simply access the app on your ATV and log in. If not, you can sign up either online or in-app. Opt for the former If you’d like the fee to be included on your iTunes invoices. Enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »

Microsoft Surface Tablet to release simultaneously with Windows 8

Microsoft has recently revealed that the Surface Tablet will be available for purchase on October 26th of this year, which is the same date that the next version of the Windows OS will be released.  Only the RT version of the tablet will be available at release but the Pro version of the Microsoft Surface 90 days later.

The SEC filing for the tablet has also revealed that the surface will have a suggested retail price that is “comparable to ARM tablet or Intel Ultrabook-class” PC’s.  That probably means that the RT tablet will be floating around the $ 500 mark where as the Pro version of the surface will probably be around $ 1,000.

Samsung Galaxy Tab is legally “Not as Cool” as the iPad

Samsung recently scored a “victory” in UK courts as a judge has ruled that the Samsung Galaxy Tab does not infringe on Apple’s design due to it being “not as cool” as the iPad. Judge Colin Briss also stated that the Samsung devices “do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design”. Apple has 21 days to appeal the decision.

It’s nice to see some of the recent patent trolling that companies have been hitting each other with finally produce an emotion that doesn’t make me want to take a flamethrower to a group of lawyers but I still really wish they would stop.

Tim Hortons soon to offer Free Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi in public restaurants has been a pretty big thing recently.  Starbucks has been doing it for quite some time and McDonalds has also been doing it for a while in Canada. Now the beloved Canuck coffee franchise has also decided to enter the free Wi-Fi club. The internet will be provided by Bell canada and it is expected to be rolled out to more than 90% of the Tim Hortons restaurant locations in Canada by this September.

While I must admit that I’m not a huge fan of Tim Hortons coffee anymore, its hard to say this isn’t a great thing. Hell considering how many Tim Hortons locations there are out there you could probably argue that buying internet yourself isn’t really necessary anymore.  Hell this one street near our office has SEVEN Tim Hortons locations in less the a 5 km Stretch of road. Impressive Demo of Voice Search on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

One of the things that was touched on in this years was the newest OS update for Android Jelly Bean.  One of the new features of the OS is improved voice search.  The Jelly Bean update pairs Google’s Voice Search service with Google’s contex-aware search results which I must say leads to some pretty impressive results.

This just makes me want the 4.1 Update even more.  Hopefully Samsung gets it working on my Galaxy S2X before I’m tempted to splurge on a new phone. Read the rest of this entry »
