Microsoft has no plans for DirectX 11.1 on Windows 7

Microsoft has recently released version 11.1 of its Direct 3D API for Windows 8 and Windows RT but it seems people hanging on to their old installs of Windows 7 will miss out on this particular update to DirectX. This was confirmed by Microsoft Employee Daniel Moth who stated on Microsoft’s msdn forums that there is “no plan for DirectX 11.1 to be made available on Windows 7.”

So there you have it, you can now factually state that Microsoft has pulled a Vista with Windows 8. At least in the sense that they are holding back support for DirectX on their older OS platforms just like the originally did with DirectX 10 on Vista.

Google Nexus 10 Announced

Had enough of announcements from Google today? Well it’s not over yet as they announced the first 10 inch Nexus Branded Tablet today as well as their newest Nexus Phone. The Nexus 10 is a WiFi only tablet that runs android 4.2 Jelly Bean, Gorilla Glass covered 2560×1600 resolution display at 300 pixels per inch, Dual Core Samsung Exynos 5 SoC processor, 2 GB of RAM, NFC, MIMO Wireless N WiFi,5MP back camera and a 1.9MP front-facing camera. The tablet will be available in Canada on November 13th and start at $409 for the base 16 GB model.

Aside from the lack of a 3G or 4G wireless radio I see this as being a great deal for a 10″ tablet. Especially when you consider that this product has similar specs to an iPad 3 ( in fact the pixels per inch of the Nexus tablet is higher ) for the price of the iPad 2; however, if the Nexus 7 is any indication of how Google works then we should probably expect a 3G/4G capable version of the device sometime next year.

Google Officially Announces the LG Nexus 4, Available in Canada on November 13th

By now the LG Nexus 4 isn’t much of a surprise but despite the cancellation of Google’s press event in New York today we still got confirmation today on the latest Nexus phone. The LG Nexus 4 will run on OS 4.2 Jelly Bean, have a 1.5 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon Processor, 4.7 Inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1280×768, 2 GB’s of RAM, Wireless Charging, NFC, 2,100 mAh battery, 8MP Camera and a 1.3MP front facing camera. The phone is also 9.1 mm thick and weighs 139 grams.

The better news in all of this is that the device will be available in Canada on November 13th at $309 for the 8 gig model and $359 for the 16 gig model directly from the Google Play store. Meaning that the phone will come completely unlocked.

Apple Announces iPad 4th Gen and iPad Mini

Apple has announced not one buy two new iPad models today in San Jose during their press event today. The first iPad announcement was the 4th Generation iPad which features a new A6X chip that has double the CPU and GPU performance, the new Lightning Dock connector, and new accessory cables that support SD storage; however, the screen resolution and price for the 4th gen iPad will remain the same.

The second iPad announcement was the new 7.9 inch iPad Mini which has very similar specs to the iPad 2. The iPad mini has a duel core A5 Chip, a 5 mega pixel iSight camera, an HD front-facing camera and runs at a resolution of 1024×768. The iPad Mini also uses the new dock connector and will start at $330 for a 16 GIG WiFi only version. There is also the option to get a LTE radio on the device for an extra cost of $130.

Another interesting note is that the 3rd generation iPad (which is less than 6 months old) will no longer be sold as it has been replaced by the 4th generation model; however, they will still be selling the iPad 2.

I’m honestly baffled by all of this.  Sure the iPad mini was something that most expected but a 4th generation iPad this early? It seems to me like they are getting dangerously close to milking their customer base a little too much.

Microsoft Surface RT Tablet Pricing Revealed

Microsoft revealed the pricing for its upcoming Surface tablet today and has since pulled the listing from their website. So unless they plan on changing the pricing last-minute the pricing for a 32 gig Surface Tablet will start at $499.99 for just the tablet. 599.99 for a 32 gig tablet with a keyboard cover and 699.99 for a 64 gig tablet with a keyboard cover.

The touch keyboard can also be purchased separately at 119.99 for the regular touch cover and 129.99 for the surface type cover which is a thicker cover that provides more tactile response with its keys.

At first glance I thought that Microsoft may have missed the boat completely on the pricing for the tablet but then I remembered that a 32 gig iPad 3 costs $600. So while they are slightly undercutting the competition it doesn’t seem that they are doing it as aggressively as some would have hoped.

I am certainly looking forward to see how the Surface RT performs once it releases this October 26th but I cant help but think that most people will either pass on it or wait for the x86 version of the tablet.

Razer DeathStalker Gaming Keyboard

Razer’s DeathStalker keyboard features some new innovations on a keyboard, that I personally did not expect. Along with it’s already impressive 4.05″ touch screen which is able to run apps, the Razer Synapse 2.0 software will automatically sync the gaming keyboard to a cloud server to download driver and firmware updates, while saving your individual settings. Sync your custom settings and macros automatically with this unified configurator, allowing customization of all your Razer products with a single login. This marvel has yet to be released, but I do look forward to trying it out when it is. Hit the jump for some pictures and spec’s of the ‘Ultimate Gaming’ Keyboard.

You can learn more about the apps HERE.

Fan Expo 2012: LG Dual Screen Technology

Trevor interviews a girl from the LG Booth showcasing their new LG Dual Screen glasses which may eliminate the need for split screen in local co-op games. As a big fan of co-op games I’m in love with this even if the price tag is crazy. Check out the video and let us know what you think about this new tech.
